What is Simple Sticky Notes
Simple Sticky Notes is a free post-it note application that lets you post notes to yourself on your desktop.
After downloading Simple Sticky Notes, double-click the installer to run the Windows Setup Wizard. The installer configures your user and system folders and adds Simple Sticky Notes to your Applications menu. When Simple Sticky Notes is running, you can access your preferences and create new notes by right-clicking the system tray icon. As you would expect, creating a new note adds a post-it note to your desktop. The note has a window border like other desktop windows and resembles the kind of sticky notes you see at office supply stores.
With a note posted to your desktop, you can write and edit text like in a word processor. After typing text, you can access the paragraph style options by selecting the text and right-clicking the selection. The context menu displays the familiar font, color, size and justify options as well as an option to look up the selected text in a Google search. It is a nice feature, and for most users, simply posting sticky notes to the desktop is all that is needed. However, other post-it note applications include some very useful features that are absent in Simple Sticky Notes. For example, Simple Sticky Notes does not offer any way to link notes together with hypertext or automatically create new, related notes. As its name suggests, it is a simple program with one purpose.
Simple Sticky Notes does offer a few style options, such as window color and opacity. You can access these options from the drop-down menu next to the X button that quits the program. If you have a particularly long note, you can resize the window as with any desktop window. To remove a note from your desktop and delete it from the Simple Sticky Notes database, click the drop-down menu and select Delete Note. For important notes, you can choose the alarm feature that reminds you of a note at a specified time. To set up the alarm, click the drop-down menu and choose Alarm, then enter a time for the alarm to go off.
If you want to hide your desktop notes without closing Simple Sticky Notes, you can either right-click the tray icon and choose Hide Notes or press Alt-H on the keyboard. To restore your notes to the desktop, choose Show Notes or press Alt-S. The settings menu opens the Simple Sticky Notes website where you can download and install free sticky note themes, including alternative paper textures and colors. The website also has choices for alarm sounds that you can use instead of the default sound. To make Simple Sticky Notes more efficient, you can assign keyboard shortcuts for creating new blank notes and notes from clipboard content. These options are accessible from the main settings menu.
